Smelling 'Fragrance' to Know Yunnan, Over 150 Flavors Add Fragrance to the Taste of the Tongue

When it comes to spices, Yunnan people are not unfamiliar with them. Spices such as fragrant thatch, wood ginger, and fragrant polygonum often appear on Yunnan people's dining tables. In Yunnan, everyone uses the "fragrance" master. Even ordinary ingredients can become mouth watering delicacies when they reach the hands of Yunnan people. Adding a few spices has also become a secret weapon for Yunnan people's cooking.

In the fourth chapter of the Yunnan exhibition hall, on the "Smelling Yunnan" display wall, there are more than 150 spices from Yunnan, such as thyme, grass fruit, and nutmeg. If they were not already labeled, experienced chefs may not recognize them all. There are many varieties of spices in the same category on display, such as the commonly referred to "mint" which includes seven different categories: peppermint, Jamaican mint, Corsican mint, mint, winter mint, apple mint, and catnip (catnip). Visitors cannot help but marvel at the richness of Yunnan spices.

Yunnan is known as the "Kingdom of Plants", and under its unique natural conditions, it contains abundant natural spice plant resources. Yunnan has a natural ecological environment with various climate types and biodiversity across tropical, subtropical, temperate to cold zones, and natural spice plants are almost ubiquitous throughout the province. According to relevant statistical data, more than 400 species of spice plants have been discovered or introduced in Yunnan, including traditional Chinese spice plants such as star anise and licorice, as well as Yunnan specific spice plants such as grass star anise, wild radish, and dragon grass. It is truly a "spice kingdom".
